How to remove an unused person note field?

I had added a new person note type (Research). I'd like to remove it. I've made sure there are no notes for anyone in the note type "Research". I'm unable to remove the note field as the option is grayed out. What am I overlooking?

This is a subtle one.

Fields can't be deleted from the Edit Person or Edit Family panels. They can be added but not deleted.

Instead, choose Reunion > Settings from Reunion's main menubar, click Fields and then locate and delete the field.
