Best practices: Entering just the year for Colonial American relatives' birth records

    Hi all,

I have a substantial amount of records (bibles, wills, land grants, county records, etc.) for my family, with a smattering of records containing just the birth or marriage year and others full dates. Those full dates are rarely correct, though the year is. So many conflicts! What are people's thoughts on just entering the year when the accompanying day and month seem blatantly incorrect?

Best practice would be to enter it exactly as stated in the document. Then source it. Weigh those dates against other evidence and if you feel the source is unreliable, you can add notes in your source saying just that.
