How to Create a new Source Template

Reunion 14 offers the feature of being able to create one's own Source Templates and fields. For example with reference to Census events, I note the current templates offered in the standard R14 software seem to be based on ESM/EE styles, however my requirement is to be able record citations for UK censuses. Here's an example .... of a source and citation for my grandfather at the 1921 Census in Liverpool, well Waterloo in Liverpool.

    e.g Census Records, England & Wales. Brighton-le-Sands, Waterloo, Lancashire. 19 June 1921. SNELSON, Harold Alfred Benyon (head). RD 455. ED 21. S 102. STC E. http://www.findmypast.uk : accessed 01 April 2010.

I think there would be 10 or so elements or "fields" for this template : Title, Place, Date, Person, RD (Registration District). ED (Enumeration District). S (Schedule). STC (Schedule Type Code). URL. Date Accessed.

The standard Template offered in Reunion includes only Title, Locality, Media Type, Location of Source and Date Viewed ... so lacks basis information on "Who" this refers to, and several other pieces of information. Am I missing something here ? Any help much appreciated.

I don't think the folks at Reunion had Evidence Explained in mind when they created the templates either. That said, Reunion is pretty flexible and allows you to create your own templates - it's all there in the manual. You can start by going into your settings and selecting “sources”. This is where you can add or create your own fields or modify/create source templates. In the end, it’s something you’ll need to experiment with to find what works best for you. You also have the option to just use the free-form text area if that feels easier for your citation style.

Thanks Eventide ... it's all there in the manual.

I have now had some time to experiment. I am finding this quite frustrating as creating one's own Templates is functionally quite easy, Reunion/Settings/SourcesTemplates/Fields/Adding soon leads to a position where the Adding a new field is quite hard.
This creation of the fields and GEDCOM tags is confusing.
So I am wondering what others are doing with creating their own Sources and Citations for UK based facts and events whilst avoiding the free-form option? There must be many Americans and Australians/Kiwis, Canadians and others with UK based ancestors with this problem? Any experience out there which someone might like to share? Eventide, Others ?

If you are getting stuck on GEDCOM tags, then you need to consult with someone smarter than me I haven't paid much attention to it since I'm not exporting my data to Ancestry or other software platforms. At the moment I just use Reunion as a repository for my data. If I ever need to export my data, that will probably come back to bite me later.

But perhaps you can be more specific–what fields are you trying to create that you think are unique to the UK and what problems are you having?
