    import geocoded places from TNG

    I can confirm that it is now possible to import geocoded places from TNG using a GEDCOM file. Yippee!
    So, can you tell me how you import geocoded places from TNG? Nearly all of my places are geocoded in TNG, so I just want to add the geocodes to the places in Reunion.

    Do you export a GEDCOM from TNG and then import it into a new Reunion file?

    First, I made a backup of my main Reunion file and jotted down a few notes about it, including highest person ID, highest source number, total number of people, etc. I also verified that I didn't have any unused sources. In my case, I did have a couple that were unused (but I wanted to keep) so I temporarily added them to a dummy note on my own family card. I exported a GEDCOM from TNG, then imported it into my main Reunion file. In the import process, I had Reunion apply a new flag to all imported records. I also unchecked everything in the Optional Fields tab, as I would just be deleting the newly-imported people anyway.

    After importing, I verified that my places were now geocoded (they were), then marked all of the flagged people for deletion. Before actually deleting them, I did my best to verify that only the new records were marked. Among other things, I found all people with something in the relationship field and unmarked them. Similarly, I found all people with a person ID lower than the previous max and made sure they weren't marked, either. Then I used File -> Delete -> Marked People to delete all the newly-imported duplicates. Finally, I used "Find unused sources" and deleted the resulting sources, then deleted the dummy note I'd created earlier.

    So far, all seems well!

      So TNG will export the geocodes for all places automatically? Does this work with 8.1.3 or do you have to have TNG 9.0?

        I'm running TNG 9.0.2, but I believe version 8 worked the same. In my experience, TNG always exports all places.

          Exporting the GeoCodes in TNG was introduced in TNG 9.0.0

          From the Release Notes:

          22 - Export: Places with notes or map coordinates will now be exported from the Admin GEDCOM export utility.
