Upgrading to MacBook Air M4 and Reunion 14

Getting ready to upgrade from a 2013 MacBook Pro 13" with Reunion 13 to a 2025 MacAir M4 15" that'll have Reunion 14. Is there a particular sequence of moving the data that will minimize potential conflicts (ie, broken mulitmedia links, duplication of files, etc). All data on the MacBook is on two external Western Digital drives (Time Machine). Mac World and other online sources have numerous articles on upgrading and moving data but they seem to be based on using iCloud which I don't use. As for apps I've been using Word/Excel 2008 but will move over to LibreOffice as that appears to be popular in the forum.

Realized that the MacAir 15" is with the M3 chip, not the M4.

If Apple's Migration Assistant is not used to transfer all files from the older Mac to the newer Mac, I recommend doing the file transfer this way...

      ON YOUR OLDER MAC...

      1. Open a Reunion 13 family file and choose File -> Export > Reunion Family File. Then, select these options...
      • People: All people
      • Sources: All sources
      • Multimedia: All multimedia
(Then, check the box to copy multimedia files to a new folder and click Proceed in the message window that opens.)
√ Logs (Check Logs if logs were used.)

      2. Click the “Export…” button at the bottom and “Proceed” in the message window that opens.

      3. In the Export window that opens, select the Desktop as the location to which the exported file should be saved and click the Export button.

      4. Once the export is completed, you may quit Reunion 13.

      5. You will see a folder — containing a family file and a Media folder — appear on the desktop. Note: the Media folder should contain the media items linked to people in the family file.

(REPEAT THIS FOR EACH VERSION 13 FAMILY FILE ON YOUR OLDER MAC THAT YOU WANT TO CONTINUE USING IN REUNION 14 ON THE NEW MAC.)

      6. Then, copy each "Export" folder on your Desktop to the connected flash drive (or external hard drive).

      7. Finally, eject the drive from the older Mac and insert it into your newer Mac.

      ON YOUR NEW MAC...

      1. Purchase the upgrade to Reunion 14. Information about Reunion 14 and how to purchase the upgrade can be found on these web pages...

      2. After purchasing/downloading/installing/starting up Reunion 14 on the new Mac, enter your Reunion 14 User Name and License Code….provided with your purchase.

      3. When you are prompted to "Select a family file...," click "Cancel" in that window and quit Reunion 14.

      4. Open the flash drive or external hard drive and drag each "export" folder onto the Desktop.

      5. Open an export folder and drag the exported family file to your Documents/Reunion Files folder.

      6. Next, drag the "Media" folder (within the "export" folder) into your Pictures/Reunion Pictures folder.

(REPEAT STEPS 5 AND 6 FOR EACH EXPORT FOLDER ON YOUR DESKTOP.)

      7. Finally, re-open Reunion 14, select a version 13 family file, and click "Open" and "Convert." (Do this for each version 13 family file.)

I hope you find this information helpful in getting up and running in Reunion 14 on your newer Mac
