    GEDCOM question

Let me start by saying I don’t know much about GEDCOM, so I’m learning as I go. I need to export a GEDCOM from Reunion, and in the process I’m discovering that some of my data isn’t making it into the export.

I don’t know everything I’m missing yet, but I’ve already found an issue with marriage data.

For example, I have a couple who married twice—two different dates, about a year apart. In the GEDCOM export, only one of the marriages is showing up.

I also created a custom field called Marriage Affidavit. Since there doesn’t appear to be a standard GEDCOM tag for that, should I be exporting it as an EVEN event? If so, is there a particular way I should set that up in Reunion so the information will export properly?

I suspect this is probably just the beginning of what I’m going to discover. But I guess it’s time to dive right in.

If you make a new event (one that is not already specified in the GEDCOM Standard) I believe you have to precede it's tag with an underscore. Regular events don't use the underscore but for new ones that you make, the underscore tells the interpreter that it is not one in the Standard.

How did you record the second marriage? With most events you can add duplicates, but with marriage you only have one line. I record the second marriage date in the notes associated with the marriage event.

      Thanks, Blaise,

I made a new Marriage Event to record the second marriage. Currently, it does not have a GEDCOM tag. If I understand correctly, I can give it a custom tag with an underscore. I'll give that a try, and if it doesn't work, I will do what you do and record it in the notes.
