    ReunionTalk back on-line

ReunionTalk has been off-line for two weeks. Everyone in the ReunionTalk community has been very patient and understanding as we worked to bring ReunionTalk back to life.

    Here is a brief explanation...

On July 27, 2026 ReunionTalk was taken off-line by hackers. This hack was made possible by a vulnerability in the vBulletin software that is used to run the ReunionTalk forum. The hack consisted of overwriting some files in the root folder for reuniontalk.com rendering ReunionTalk useless. Attempts to restore the forum resulted in the site being taken down again. As far as I can tell, no user data was compromised.

This vulnerability was made public at the end of June 2026 and affected all releases of vBulletin 5 and vBulletin 6.

vBulletin released a fix for this vulnerability on July 1, 2026 but only for vBulletin 6 users. ReunionTalk was running on vBulletin 5 and no fix was made available.

The obvious solution was to upgrade to vBulletin version 6.2.2 which fixes the vulnerability. Getting the ReunionTalk forum on this latest version of vBulletin to look like the previous version of ReunionTalk has been quite time consuming and challenging.

Please post questions and comments here.

It's much appreciated! I thought the forum looked just slightly different. So glad it's back online.

Thanks Gregg & Team. I visit this forum every morning and I've been missing you all

It might be worth noting that when I came back, my browser defaulted to "vB5 Style" in the footer and vBulletin as my page title (rather than Reunion Talk).

The drop-down in the footer allowed me to select ReunionTalk Style and brought me back to the familiar color scheme.

        Cheers,
        Kirk

Thanks Kirk. The ReunionTalk favicon.ico has been restored. And, the correct style is now selected by default and there should no longer be an option to change the style.

If any of the above changes are not immediately seen, it could be old information in your browser's cache.

Gregg: Weird thing happening.... After you brought the forum back up, I logged in and checked the Remember Me box. Now, when I stop by for my daily ReunionTalk session, at first I get a page where the upper right corner has the login/register message. Clicking on any of the groups results in a page refresh that now shows my name. Kind of strange that one gets the login/register page when one is already signed in.
