    Cause of Death

I am exporting a gedcom 7 gdz from Reunion 14 for input on a Windows laptop for entry into John Cardinal's Gedsite version 5.10. All is working fine. Exception, the Cause of Death "event" does not appear at all in the generated site. It (the CAUS entry) sits correctly (I think) in the gedcom file at Level 2 under the Level 1 DEAT line. That is, CAUS is subordiate to DEAT. Yet, it does not appear in the generated site.

So, the text in the CAUS parameter (e.g. ""carcinoma of larynx") does not appear. This could of course be an issue with GEDSITE's interpretation of the gedcom file. Is there anything within Reunion 14 and the way it handles the CAUS "event" that might be an issue?

Any advice much appreciated ... and a very happy 2026 New Year to everyone !

I note that in Reunion 14 Build 240614, that there was an "imprevement in the importing and exporting of Cause of Death in GEDCOM.

Can some kind soul explain to me what that improvement was - as I am experiencing some problems with the the export of CoD in Gedcom 7.

    Any help much appreciated.

Yes, this is correct and is the result of the noted addition in the 240614 build.

As you stated, Reunion 14 should be (and is) exporting this death event as follows...

      1 DEAT
      2 PLAC the place
      2 DATE the date
      2 CAUS carcinoma of larynx

It sounds like you have correctly entered the cause of death as a fact in the "Cause of Death" fact field. When Reunion exported the GEDCOM file, the cause of death fact field is tied to the death event.

If Gedsite is not importing the cause of death information as exported by Reunion, I would be curious to know why and how they would expect to see the cause of death information in a GEDCOM file.
