Can't find matches

I have been researching what I thought were twins. Turns out is just one person. Various documents had them listed with slightly different names. When I ran match and merge, they don't come up as a match even though the dates are the same. So I tried renaming them both with the same name and still - match and merge doesn't recognize each other as matches. Any way around this?

What I do often is mark them both (the green checkmark). Then set the right sidebar show marked people. Go to the card of one of them, then, from the sidebar, drag the other one and let it go on the one that is displayed. It helps if they have the exact same name.

I can't remember when the last time was that I used Match and Merge. It never really worked for me. So I merge people manually as explained above.

I think I know what happened...one of them was male and one female so it wouldn't recognize it as a duplicate. When I tried your method it tried to make a spouse for the first one.
