I have found that if I have the Sources list filtered to find say a particular type, and then duplicate one of them, there is some hesitation as I fill out the fields in that new source.

I am also have serious slow down with reunion. I have tried all of the suggestions in this forum but nothing has fixed it.

My Mac is a 2017 iMac 27inch with a Samsung TV as a second window. Processor 3.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 Graphics Radeon Pro 580 8 GB Memory 8 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 Startup disk Macintosh HD macOS Ventura 13.6

    Reunion: 13.0 (build: 230824)

Some times it is very quick and no problems. This morning when I tried to filter the name list I got the slow down with the spinning ball. I use a lot of Keyboard Maestro macro's to fill in my source fields. Some of the time when it is pasting it just stops and waits for something then starts filling in the fields again where it left off.

One of my questions is this: When you fill in blank fields Reunion will search for something after each character is entered to check spelling? I found the option to check spelling as you type maybe this is it? I'll give it a try as this is one option I have not tried.

Any Suggestions? I a considering getting an external SSD and boot from this. Has anyone tried this?

    Thanks
    Roger

I'm sorry to hear you are seeing an issue with not being able to open your family file after upgrading to macOS Sonoma. My first suggestion would be to delete your existing "Reunion 13.app" from Applications and download a fresh copy of Reunion 13 from here...

This is to ensure you are running the latest version of Reunion 13 on your Mac. (The current released version of Reunion 13 compatible with macOS Sonoma.)

If problems continue in not being able to open your version 13 family file, let us know specifically what you are seeing when trying to open your family file and we'll go from there.

    Thanks

That should be reported, along with the details of your system, to Leister support.

Ha, I have you all beat. I am using a 2012 27" iMac with High Sierra OS. It has a SSD, and a second large monitor. Reunion 13 still works perfectly fine on it. (However, I am looking at a Mac mini with a M2 Pro chip and two $170 27" monitors for Christmas (about 1000 bucks total.))

There is one thing that I have found that slows down workflow that hasn't been mentioned in this thread. When I do Find Relatives (usually for myself) it puts the results in the right hand sidebar. When the results are showing in the right hand sidebar, certain actions that you do will produce pauses, with the spinning wheel (I have about 80,000 people). (I DO NOT have Identify Relationships "on the fly" checked.)

To easily get around this, simply switch the right hand sidebar back to showing the normal list of people.

I've been having the same problems described in this thread for about a month. I have a 27" 2017 iMac with the most current operating system update, i.e. Ventura 13.6. What is the best solution to fix these problems? It's really frustrating.

No. Whether SSD, spinning or fusion, the drive is simply a storage place. Which operating system a computer can deploy is strictly related to the processor on the motherboard. (Note: One should plan to buy a new computer about every five to six years. That will usually keep one a year or two ahead of reaching that "it can't be updated any longer" event.)

    Mike,
Does your new hard drive enable you to use the latest OS? - Sorry to say No. The iMac is too old. Only 12.6.8 Monterey.

Thanks Alan. I have a 3TB fusion drive. Probably not as quick as your SSD but it's always been pretty quick in the past.

Thanks also for the tip about 13 September. I'm not holding my breath but it's worth the wait to see what they announce!

Mike; My iMac is the same as yours and using the same OS version. In my case I had to have a new hard-drive and the techs replaced the existing h/d with an SSD 2TB. It cost me AU$650 and will probably prolong the life for some years (so they say). It now really flies and is more responsive. To me it was the only option I had as the current 24" is not large enough for me.
But having said that, wait till the 13-9-23 when Apple are having a "Wonderlust" presentation and we'll see what new items they are going to release. (Iphones. ear-buds and iMacs???).
I think your old iMac would benefit from a new h/d which could be the less costly option.

I too have been having problems with Reunion's slow response time for some weeks. I am running Reunion 13.0 on a late 2015 27" Mac running Monterey 12.6.8. I have plenty of room in my Dropbox account. I've been using Reunion for years and have never had problems before.
Is the problem that I have an old Mac? I am unable to update to Ventura because the 2015 Mac is no longer compatible. I really like the 27" screen but now that Apple have dropped the 27" Mac it is an expensive option to replace with a similar size of screen.
Can anyone help? It's really frustrating.

My problem started just after the last update to macOS Ventura 13.4. I only have the problem when I start up Reunion. Once Started it is OK. I don't have any media attached and nothing running as far as browsers.

Bob; I have seen the press release (9to5mac.com) of the Samsung M8 32inch monitor (for $700us approx) and considered matching it with a mac mini, but have been holding off till the WWDC Apple are having in June.

The specs of the M8 are not upto to the Apple Studio Display (27") but of course the latter is a lot more expensive.

I think Apple will be adding updated M3 chips into their range.

Meanwhile will have to persevere with my iMac (late 2015)

Well, alan, I am glad that the 2T SSD has made you a happy camper! That’s great. Enjoy!!!

And Bob White-I agree about the 27” iMac being gone from the Apple lineup.

    I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro that I love but I kind of wish that I had a 2T SSD-I have a 1T SSD.
