emtering UK GRO dates by Quarters

In the UK registers BMD dates are reported in four quarters. So Q1 consists of the three months Jan/Feb/Mar, Q4 of Oct/Nov/Dec, and so on.

If I want to reflect this in Reunion, is there a way to enter the dates? Something like "Q1 1878" (that doesn't work!).

My workaround is to split the difference and put "abt Feb 1878" but it doesn't really work as I have a one in three chance of hitting the right year for when I do a lookup.

Has anyone come up with a solution for this?

Reunion handles Quarter dates, in its own way!
Enter your date as Q1 yyyy as per your example, then enter your sort date for that Quarter and save as a custom date. The sort date could be Jan yyyy for Q1 - your choice - but be consistent throughout. Your dates will require more memory/storage. The related BMDs will sort OK in the Event list - depending on your choice of sort date.
