    What are "Linked" people

Could someone enlighten me as to what criteria Reunion uses to consider people linked? Been using Reunion since version 8 or 9.

A person is linked if they are a blood relative to another in your 'tree'.

From the lack of interest in this question, I'm thinking the answer (which I am missing), is quite simple.

However, the answer "A person is linked if they are a blood relative to another in your 'tree'" doesn't make sense to me. My wife is not a blood relative to me and is not connected to anyone else in my tree (we have separate trees) and yet is connected to me in my familyfile. May I offer an explanation, myself and have someone agree or disagree?

My 3,779 person Family File has 38 islands, the largest being 3391, which contains myself and individuals connected either as spouses, parents or children. I unmarked my entire family file then marked all people linked to me, and the 3,779 number of marked people appeared.

What made me wonder about this was multiple levels of inlaws... Did Reunion consider them linked to me, and the answer seems to be YES. So (I'm making this up) my deceased uncle's 3rd wife's 2nd husband's adopted step daughter's, sister in-law is linked to me, as long as all the people and their spousal, parent or child relationships exist in my family file.

In the context of islands, "linked" means there is some connection between the entries. Your wife would be considered "linked" to you because she is connected to your entry as a spouse.

        ...my deceased uncle's 3rd wife's 2nd husband's adopted step daughter's, sister in-law is linked to me...
Correct - there is a (non-blood) connection between you and your uncle's 3rd wife's 2nd husband's...etc. "Linked", in this context, simply means that there is some connection (blood, marriage, etc.) between the entries.

Think of it like links in a chain. If I have a set of chains (e.g. one long chain with several other chains coming off it) that are all connected, they are linked. If I have two lengths of chain that are not connected (like the chains on my two bicycles), they aren't linked.

Thank you. It was a simple explanation. Also, I erred in my marking numbers. When I marked all people lined to me, the number 3391 showed as marked, as expected.
