Size of PDF created from Book

I create a book. It has a size of 32.3 MB (about 320 pages). From this book, I create a PDF. It has a size of 721.2 MB!!!
Then I open the PDF with Adobe Acrobat Pro, and I re-save with a new name. The size drops to 14.5 MB.
    1. Isn't there a way to obtain a reasonable file siez directly from Reunion?
    2. Instead of opening the first PDF with Preview, would it not be possible to open it with Adobe Reader or Acrobat Pro?

Three things for you to explore.....

One is that you can open the PDF in any app that reads PDF's and there are many.

Two is that Preview contains resizing ability. Tools menu > Adjust Size.

OR File menu > Export ... choose PDF then under the Quartz Filter popup, choose Reduce File Size.

Thanks, Bob. I know how to post-process PDFs. My remarks were related to the way Reunion handles the issue. For instance, when you create a text report, you can select a text processor (TextEdit, Pages or MS Word).

It sounds to me like something has been lost in pdf file created by Acrobat Pro. My guess would be image resolution.

Try zooming in on some images in the Reunion pdf and compare the quality to the same images in the Acrobat pdf.

That's the opposite, Gregg: the file created by Reunion has a huge size, and when I re-save with Acrobat Pro, it is reduced to 2% of the original. Picture quality is fine. If I use Preview to re-save, I get a size of 4% of the original, i.e. twice the size obtained with Acrobat Pro. This is certainly acceptable, but for distribution I prefer the smaller size.

Maybe I should have mentioned that I must create the book with the French localised version of Reunion to have all fields in French. I did not think this would be relevant, but I may be wrong.

Commenting here in case this may be relevant: I had been having a similar problem with my Book projects and the resulting .pdf files being much larger than I wanted them to be. My largest Book .pdf was over 5 GB in size. The way that I found to reduce the file size was to remove large thumbnails from my Family File and then remove the Media section from the Book report. That still left small thumbnails for people who have a preferred photo, but my resulting .pdf files are down to about 15% of the original size before removing media.

The Quartz filter in "Preview" does not work with my books generated by "Reunion" (though it does work with PDF files generated by other programs). I even tried creating my own Quartz filters in the "ColorSync" utility. I presume this has something to do with the way the book is created by "Reunion". This is a big problem for me since I don't own "Acrobat Pro" or other similar software.

              Can Leisterpro correct this?
