Individual's parents not shown on his page, but he is in his parents record

I went to an individual on his parents page and clicked spouse field to add a new spouse. After completing the add, I noticed he had no parents showing. If I go back to the parents page, he is properly shown and the new wife I added is also shown, but going back to the individual it still shows no parents.
