Re: Logs - Research log record per individual
I'm not OCD about organizing logs. I have logs for many families (Doziers, Mincys, Getsingers, Plummers, etc) to record research findings and research needs. I have logs for libraries that I visit to record 'to do' lists for that library--books to peruse, manuscripts to check, etc. (Before going to a library, I usually do an online catalog search on the subject of interest and copy and paste the 'finds' with library catalog numbers into a log.) Likewise, I have 'to do' logs for a few web sites that are accessible only at a specific library or location; also for locations that I visit infrequently (Clarksville, TN area; Eastern Shore area). I check off 'to do' items as I complete them and add 'finds' to the family logs for later analysis. If I take pictures of documents with my iPhone, I can note the source in a picture log. If pressed for time, I may note all activity in a log for that date and sort it out later (don't let it get too cold!). For web finds, Mac Notes can be used similarly; it has the advantage that web stuff (pictures, text) can be selected and dragged to Notes.Originally posted by BL Samuel View PostHas anyone used the log tool to set up research logs per person to record sources?

Re: Logs - Research log record per individual
Bonnie, in past I used logs extensively, but gave up due to severe limitations.Originally posted by BL Samuel View PostHas anyone used the log tool to set up research logs per person to record sources?
What would you think if Reunion had a 'first added' date to complement the existing 'changed date' for individuals? Would that suffice?-- Paul, Reitz immigrants in America

Re: Logs - Research log record per individual
Under Edit Person - Notes Tab. I created a note called Research. Here I enter my brick walls, research I've done, to-do lists, etc ... for my ancestor. It may not be perfect but it helps me keep track on where I'm at with each ancestor.Originally posted by BL Samuel View PostHas anyone used the log tool to set up research logs per person to record sources?

As far as I can tell, you can access the "Logs" in the left sidebar and you will get a list of logs you have added. You will then have to find the log you want to work on. This is available no matter which family screen you are in.
The manual has a section on logs. I just noticed that you can enter and save up to 64,000 characters in each log-how much is 64,000 characters, I don't know. However, it doesn't say if there is a limitation on how many logs you add.
You can move the logs around to make any order you want, so, you can alphabetize the list.
Hope this helps,

A look at Reunion 11 help shows an unlimited number of logs allowed.
For the size of a log, about 30 pages seems a good equivalence to 64000 characters.

I like that approach. You can set up your family view you can have those same notes appear front and centre for that individual providing you with a reminder of the holes still to be filled and research to be undertaken.Originally posted by gcase View PostUnder Edit Person - Notes Tab. But I think I may double up by adding a 2nd note in the log by surname, perhaps not with the same level of detail. Using the log is an easy way to see and print all of the "to do's".``````````````````````````````
