Where on my Mac or Dropbox is the new converted family file placed as I cannot find it and if I click on finder it wants to pick up my version 11 file

When you saved the new, converted family file, you could have saved it anywhere. If it didn't land in Dropbox by default, then the first place I'd look would be in your Documents/Reunion Files folder. If it's in there, drag it over to your Dropbox folder.
(If it's not there, then do a search in the Finder -- searching for the file name, or part of the file name).
Once you move the new family file into Dropbox, then follow the instructions here...
