    Sources from R9 to R10

I don't remember any mention in this forum of sources transferring incorrectly from R9 to R10. I have recently discovered that quite a number of my sources have been corrupted. In R9, sources totaled 834. Now in R10, the number of sources is 600.

I've found instances when up to three sources have been "morphed" into a single source with one number--there must be quite a few of these to reduce the number of sources to 600. Also, some sources are connected to the wrong person/event, etc.

Has anyone else had this problem, and is there any simple way to untangle the mess?

No, my family file converted from R9 to R10 with no issues. However if your situation happened to me I would be curious as to when and how it might have happened. You might investigate this by doing the following:
Do you use Timemachine? If so, you could go back to the version of your family file that Timemachine saved just after you upgraded to R10. Then compare the "Get Info" file information of that older R10 family file with your pre-upgrade version under R9. Does the source discrepancy occur then too, or did it happen sometime afterwards after you began using R10 regularly?

As to fixing the problem, I'd recommend you try re-updating your R9 family file to R10 by opening the R10 application and then opening the R9 version of your family file. (Save/rename your "corrupted" family file first so you have it in case it may be needed for further debugging/restoration, as it may contain changes you might have made since you upgraded to R10). After doing this, does the newly converted family file look ok? If so then you'd still need to re-enter your more recent changes, if any.

But if it still looks corrupted, then next re-download the R10 application from Leister Productions. and try converting your R9 family file once again.

If after trying all the above and you still have a problem, I would suggest sending your old R9 family file to Leister along with a description of your conversion problem.

Thanks Byron, Yes I do use Timeline and I will try your "fix." Trouble is I didn't notice the problem until quite some time after upgrading and there would be lots of info to re-enter. But I'll see what happens.

Using Timeline I have pinpointed the problem to several months after the upgrade, so there must have been another cause. The July 16 backup is correct, the July 30 backup is corrupt. So upgrading the R9 file isn't the fix is it? I can sure use input into how to untangle all this.

          Hi Donna-
That's some good sleuthing using Time Machine. I was pretty sure your problem happened sometime after upgrading to R10 and was not the act of upgrading. But from your initial description of the corruption it looks like bad news. You have two files to work with…your current family file with its corrupted sources and your July 16 backup version. You might ask Leister for help via email to help@leisterpro.com and attach the two files. Perhaps they have tools to at least partially resolve the problem.
