    Merging 2 REUNION files

    Bonjour

To go faster, two persons worked separately on two different Gabarit (files). One on father's family/ancestries and the other person on mother's family/ancestries.

Now that we have completed the research, we would like to merge the two files but it seems to create different problems quite hard to explain.

Of course, when trying to merge the two files, we worked with copies as not to touch the original.

First question : is it possible to merge
Second, if yes, how should I do it ? it is about 3000 persons to merge...
Thank you very much for your help !!

If the two files truly are separate (one father's side, the other mother's side), it should be a simple matter to merge them.

This is how I'd do it.

Working with copies as you've already said, find the file with the less complete descendant info (below the father and mother). Delete the other parent from the file along with the source person, siblings, and their descendants.

Now you have one file with one parent's family and all the descendants, and one file with just the other parent's family.

Open the bigger file, delete the parent that is still in the other file. The intent is to have two files here with no overlapping/duplicate people. For me, this simplifies things by avoiding the match and merge process altogether.

You can now import the other file into it (no gedcom needed, just the Reunion files). Now you can drag one parent onto the other parent's family card as a spouse, and the files should be merged.

Reunion 10 has improved match/merge capabilities, but it gets a bit complicated to explain and this should bypass the need to do it at all.

      Bonjour Messieurs

you have been an important help in this merging. I first worked again with copies and removed from each files the errors and also the doubloon (doublon in French). I have almost finished cleaning the files and do the merging. I tried first and it worked but as I found too many errors or doubloon, I started over a third time ! very patient.

I also referred you web site to the members of our small group (10 persons). Hope one day I'll do business with you. Enjoy your day !
