Cannot get order of children, by birth, in both Family and Tree View. Use both "Change" and drag/drop to re-order but it will not stick. Ugh!

Re: sorting children
I am not sure what you are seeing. In the Family View of my file, I changed the order of my children by drag-and-drop and it did what I asked. I then went to the 'children' menu drop-down, and asked it to sort. Sort went just like I expected; it went back to what it was/should be.
The Tree View reflects the sort of the children in the Family View. I wouldn't expect it to be sortable on its own.
Perhaps I am misinterpreting your question?

Re: sorting children
One of several examples:
A example family has 5 children born 1906 through 1918. In Tree view for their parents, the names are listed from left to right in correct order by birth date and in an horizontal display. In Family view, the order is 06, 11,18, 09 and 15, from left to right. (three on one line and 2 in the line below OR 2x2x1). Drag and drop, etc., will generate several orders but not generate a correct order for the Family view. No improvement with the dropdown "sort" function.

Re: sorting children
The family view of children in R10 is the same as in R9, however the larger boxes do tend to 'hide' the top down, then left to right order.Originally posted by oldjim View Post... Hijacking the thread slightly, if the picture setting is "None" can the box size for both children and parents take this into account i.e. become smaller ??Peter Cook

Re: sorting children
If you're referring to the height of the children and parent buttons, this is determined by the height of pictures in the buttons (which you can resize by clicking and dragging the bottom-center of the thumbnail image) OR the number of fields, whichever requires more vertical space. If you are not showing pictures or silhouettes, then the height of the child and parent buttons is determined by the number of fields that you're showing inside the buttons, which is set in the Family View Preferences.Originally posted by Peter Cook View Post...if the picture setting is "None" can the box size for both children and parents take this into account i.e. become smaller ??Frank Leister

We can't duplicate this problem; thus you should send your family file to help@LeisterPro.com and let us know the names of some couples where you see a problem.Originally posted by oldjim View PostOne of several examples:

Re: sorting children
Just ran some quick tests on two families in my Reunion 10 file by mixing up and then re-sorting children - one family with four kids, the other with 15. Both drag-and-drop and children drop-down menu sort functions work perfectly.Originally posted by oldjim View PostOne of several examples:

Are you sure that you have dates entered for the children in a format that Reunion recognises? Only thing I can think of that might be causing your problem is a non-standard custom date format.

Ah, mea culpa, I hadn't turned off the show preferred picture on the child preference pane.Originally posted by Frank View PostIf you are not showing pictures or silhouettes, then the height of the child and parent buttons is determined by the number of fields that you're showing inside the buttons, which is set in the Family View Preferences.Peter Cook

Re: sorting children
Is there actually a problem? Reading across Peter's attachment, the dates are in order -- overall. Peter or oldjim: What happens when you make your window wider? I'm asking because Peter's screenshot looks like the screen is really narrow.Bob White, Mac Nut Since 1985, Reunion Nut Since 1991

No Bob, I don't believe there is a problem - I was expanding on my original response to oldjim's post, as that seemed to have been overlooked.Originally posted by Bob White View PostIs there actually a problem? As to the screenshot width, I've been working off a 14" MacBook screen since my G5 died late last year, so use about 85% of the width for Reunion - with the new navbar and sidebar on each side, the 'real estate' for the Family View is even more limited than it was in V9.
In other words I'm quite used to the top/down then left to right appearance of the Child buttons in the limited space I allow for them - others with more space may only have seen this format since upgrading to V10 (especially with the default being that preferred pictures are turned on for the child buttons).Peter Cook

Re: sorting children
Many are unaware it is inexpensive and easy to add a second screen to any Mac. So, you can keep the Internet on one and Reunion on the second. Pages can be dragged from one screen to the other. There are many applications which can use this approach. My wife on her laptop (built in 2001) has her On-Line Banking on one screen and Quicken on the second.Originally posted by Peter Cook View PostNo Bob, I don't believe there is a problem - I was expanding on my original response to oldjim's post, as that seemed to have been overlooked.

Re: sorting children
You can also add two additional monitors to your Mac if you have a 27" iMac with 2x Thunderbolt ports. At least thats what I do. You can never have too much real estate. This way I can have Reunion on the 27" (great for Tree view etc) and the list window on a second monitor and the internet on a third. Works for me: )Originally posted by Charles Bourland View PostMany are unaware it is inexpensive and easy to add a second screen to any Mac.
