And just for a contrary view on this - I very rarely Repair Permissions, and never run anything like TechTool or DiskWarrior and my 3 Macs are purring along just fine.

Mac OS X itself takes care of some of these items when you're not looking.

Thanks for the responses. In the PC world I was a very conscientious maintenance person running defrag, repair, etc. Three years ago when I moved to the Mac world I just haven't been doing maintenance.
Food for thought.
