    Chart Editing

I suspect these questions apply to other charts also, but ran into the
issues on a left-right pedigree chart:
    (1) In any other than the barest layout, there is a possibility that some of the designated
fields will have no values for one or more individuals in the chart.
Is there a way to either specify that fields with null entries not be
    included?
    (2) Alternately, is there a way to globally delete (for example) a
line in the box with "dp." and nothing else in that line?
    (3) (Especially) places can have very short or very long lengths. Is
there a way to force the texts to wrap? [see next question also]
    (4) Is there a way to "shrink" a box (or selection of boxes)
horizontally? This is related to the previous question in that it
would require some text to wrap.

All this is in furthering of the objective of compacting a chart into
a reasonable footprint for inclusion in a text or e-mail document.

    Thanks.

    Re: Chart Editing

Hi Bob - The blank data field issue is easy to take care of. When you create the chart from the family card, there's a settings window that pops up before the chart is drawn. In that window, you can go to the Layout popup menu and choose define layouts at the bottom of the list. In the center column of the next window that comes up, there's a Event Format option, and if you select that, you'll have an option to check a box that says exclude empty fields. Once you save that change, you should be able to draw a chart the way you want.

      Re: Chart Editing

In a left to right chart, it looks really nice to have the boxes trimmed by generation, but as you say, sometimes a box or two will have a really long line of text which forces all the other boxes in that generation to have a lot of empty space.

You can double click on an offending box, find a good place in the long line to break it, and simply add a carriage return to wrap it. I'll usually put a 5 space indent in the second line to indicate it's subordinate to the line above. After you've taken care of the problem boxes, often only a couple, all the boxes should be the way you want them. Just make sure to redraw the tree (Tree->Orientation) to close up the space left by the narrower generation.
