I would like to use 4 colors to indicate the 4 main branches of my tree. Is there a way to do this in Reunion 11. I see the pink and blue for sex, but I would give that up, if I could get the four branches with distinct colors

Re: Color Coding branches of family tree
That is a great idea! I use flags for different branches, but it would be nice to have a different color associated with each flag.Researching DEBEE, FRERICHS/FREDERICKS, HAHNENENKAMP, JANCO, KOLK, PETRINI, WEISS

I would ask "Why?" There are already tools in the program to "see" your branches.
Also, I think this discussion should be moved to the Wish List category.Bob White, Mac Nut Since 1985, Reunion Nut Since 1991

I agree. This should be a wish list item. I didn't realize we weren't in that category.Originally posted by Bob White View PostI would ask "Why?" There are already tools in the program to "see" your branches.

As to 'why', even though there are other ways to do it, this would be very convenient. There are many ways to do lots of things in Reunion, and because we are all different, some ways work better for some of us than others do. This would just be another option.
For me, occasionally I come across a person in my index and have no idea what branch this person is associated with. I add a lot of extended family—a cousin's husband's mother's sister's mother-in-laws aunt, maybe. Without doing a lot of clicking in that family tree, there is no way for me to know why she is in there. That is why I have started using flags for every person I add to my database. Of course, flags have an advantage over colors because I can associate a family with multiple lines. But I can see that for those who keep a paper folder system, using a different color folder for each line, it would be very convenient to associate the same color with that line in Reunion.Researching DEBEE, FRERICHS/FREDERICKS, HAHNENENKAMP, JANCO, KOLK, PETRINI, WEISS

There it is! In my tree work, I would usually stop with the cousin's husband. Thus, I very very rarely would run into your kind of problem. Re: Color Coding branches of family tree
I understand. I do this most often with my dad's line. In my hometown, I have ancestors dating before the mid-1800s. Sometimes it seems that everyone who has been there since before maybe 1990 is related to everyone else there, at least by marriage. I've found it helpful to include pretty much everyone listed in an obit for these people, because I have some ready-made connections that way. Just recently I discovered that a woman I went to HS with was married to a man who was a cousin to one of my cousins. We obviously aren't directly related, but it was still a fun discovery.Originally posted by Bob White View PostI would usually stop with the cousin's husband.Researching DEBEE, FRERICHS/FREDERICKS, HAHNENENKAMP, JANCO, KOLK, PETRINI, WEISS
