Is there a way to change the background color of the Descendant Chart from white to a preferred color?

You can add a rectangle, enlarge it to the size of your chart, move it to the bottom/back layer, and set the fill to the desired background color.

How do I add a rectangle, and from where? I haven't found an item that will allow me to create the rectangle within the chart. Thanks.

You can get more information by searching on "add rectangle" in the manual, but the Cliffs notes version is to select from the main menu (when the chart is open) Edit>Add Shape>Rectangle.

You can send the rectangle behind your tree by selecting it, and then choose from the main menu Object>Layer>Back.

Thanks for your help. It took me some experimentation to add the color after creating and sizing the rectangle, but you put me on the right path.

After generating the Descendant Chart background color, I have another request. I place the completed chart on a family website, trying to blend colors. Ideally I would like to use the website page as the background. Is there a way to leave the background of the Descendant Chart transparent so that the website page color becomes the new background of the chart?

Unfortunately I need help. "Chart Transparency" not found under "?". Here is my sequence:
1. Created my Descendant Chart.
2. Edit>Add Shape>Rectangle.
3. Expand the rectangle on the chart.
4. Object>Layer>Back.
5. "?" Opened manual to "Opaque vs. Transparent Objects".
6. Choose Transparent Fill Pattern. No color option available, as expected.
7. File>Save Graphic File.
8. Graphic File.jpeg to Desktop.
9. On a new iWeb page:
10. Insert>Choose>Desktop>Graphic File.jpeg.
11. Chart on the webpage has a white background, not transparent.
12. Checked the Graphic File.jpeg on "Preview", a white background.

How might I obtain a transparent background to the Descendant Charts?

Unfortunately I need help. "Chart Transparency" not found under "?".

When I click on the "?", I get the Manual window. I put "chart transparency" in the search bar of that window (top right), and I get 3 results, of which the first is: Transparency, Chart Files.
