Entering information that goes contiguously thru a date range?

Events are entered with a date. A single date.

Facts have no date field.

So, how are we to handle information that extends over a date RANGE? For example, Residences and Occupations. I am loath to enter either of these as Events because they are not fixed to a single, specific date. However, I'd like to enter them with dates, but facts allow no dates? ... Or do they?

Should information that covers a date range be entered as a fact with the corresponding date range noted (in a specific format)? For example, considering my grandfather, I might enter the Fact below.

Events don't have to be recorded as single dates. I treat residence, education, employment, medical, and service of any kind as periods and enter them as events with "from ... to ..." starting and ending dates. Reunion proposes that these custom dates use the first date for the sort date and I accept. Report narratives handle these very well. To me occupations are the specific roles the person played during these periods, and these get summarized in a single fact but detailed in the various events' memo fields. Examples below.

I also enter ranges as "from and to".

I enter ranges in a "date-date" format (01Jan 2000-31 Dec 2001). It' a bit shorter for saving space on smaller screens.

OK. I see I am too literal/pedantic for my own good. I'll enter a date range in the events fields. I also see now what is happening with the "custom date" designation.

I also use it for Census events. I can instantly see which years I have or don't have right on their card.
