I have just noticed that if a parent remarry and the new partner adopts an existing child, the number of children doubles for (in this case) the mother, if you want the children to appear under both the birth father and the new father. However, Reunion flags the birth father as "Father" and the new father as "Step Father", while the mother is always flagged "Mother".
So, as Renion can identify the difference between the fathers, and regards the mother as the "Mother" in both cases, it should be possible for Reunion to see that the mother doesn't have two children, but just one - especially as all details are identical for the "two" children.
