    Reunion Tech Support

    After Mobile Me closed, I found Fatcow.com as a web host. The price was right but there is kittle Mac help. I finally got the site u and running but then wanted to put a counter on it to see if anyone is looking at it.

    Fatcow was no help so I called Reunion Tech Support and Mark helped me to install the counter.

    Hooray for Reunion Tech support and Hooray for Mark.

      I would love to know how to do this.
      Can you give some details of how to add a counter ?

        RAther than adding a counter, perhaps you should register with Google for their Web Master Tools and get a Google Analytics account - you can learn an amazing array of information about your visitors for very little effort.

        Google Analytics gives you the tools you need to better understand your customers. You can then use those business insights to take action, such as improving your website, creating tailored audience lists, and more.

          I tried to do as you suggested:
          I registered with Google Analytics, and now needed to add some HTML code to my website.

          Then as I use iWeb for my website, the only way to add the Google code seemed to be to add an HTML Snippet Widget to the first page, and copy the HTML code to this widget.

          It seemed to accept it but when I upload the changes, and then access the website using Safari, then use View Source to show the code, I cannot find the Google code in the page.

          Also Google Analytics does not show any visits.

          Any advice ?

            I don't use iWeb so aren't sure how you'd achieve what you need to with iWeb.

            What I have done on my sites would be to use TextWrangler to a mass find and replace on all the files in the web project.

            So depending on where Google says the code needs to go - immediately after the </body> code or immediately before the </head> code for example.

            then do a find and replace to

            Find
            </head>
            and replace it with

            whateverGoogleSaysToUse
            </head>
            that will put the tracking code on to every page for you.

              Paul, Here is another one that I had used on my Mobile Me website and couldn't find for this new site:

              Easy Counter: get a website analyzed & accurately described in terms of WHOIS record, traffic stats, metadata, safety, subdomains, server details and more

              The one allows you to put it where you want it and has 10 choices from which to choose. I think I may go back to this one.

                Roger, thank you for the tip, we had never heard of TextWrangler it works great and it is free. The HTML editor that we had been using (TACO) only modified one file at a time.
                Thanks for all your input to this forum.

                  I am using Google Analytics with iWeb and it seems to be working.
                  My initial problems were my mis-understanding how it worked.
                  Thank you for your and Roger's help.
