    Gravestones, Source or Picture

    Gravestones are often inaccurate.
Should I use them as a Source or just as a Picture?

I use them as a source. Obits, death certificates, censuses, etc., are also often inaccurate. I consider them all sources and use them together to draw conclusions about the person, which also may or may not be accurate.

      They're both.

No type of source is invariably correct. Gravestones are better sources of death dates than they are birth dates, because they are a contemporary record of the former.

Thank you for your insight. I will use them as one of the sources.
        Thanks again,
