You might want to read the Family Tree DNA article about the project at http://www.familytreedna.com/ftdna_genographic.html for more information. It is less expensive to sign up directly with the genographic project. Testing with FTDNA, then transferring the results to the genographic project requires an addition $15 whereas those testing first with the genographic project can join a surname project at no addtional charge.

I see you've already received replies on how to order so I won't repeat, but just jumping on to say that I ordered a kit and submitted my sample. I had results in only about 4 weeks so I was happy with the turnaround. I then submitted my results to YSearch on FTDNA as well as Ybase on dnaheritage.com

How many markers were tested? What was the total cost?

When you visit the website, select the "How to Participate" link, or just use this address: https://www3.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/participate.html

From that page you can order a kit for $99.95 which tests 12 markers. When you get your results back, you can also add them to a surname project on Family Tree DNA, and if you wish, upgrade to a 25 or 37 marker kit (for a fee, of course).

Alternately, you can order your kit from a FTDNA surname group ($169 for 25 markers; $219 for 37 markers) and then have your results added to the Genographic project (again for a small fee).

Does this help?
