Does anyone know when the 1940 Census records will be available?

In 2012, I think. I'm looking forward to it because that'll the one where my father first appears. He was the 2nd-youngest of ten and, while I like his brothers and sisters just fine in the 1920 and 1930 censuses (censii?), this will be more important to me.

Legally, it will be available in 2010, but unless it's digitized beforehand, it might be 2012.

By statute, there is a 72 year delay before a census can be released to the public. Therefore, 2012 will be the first time the 1940 census will be available in any form. However, privacy advocates tried unsuccessfully to delay the 1930 census and most likely will attempt to prevent the 1940 census from being released in 2012.

72 years? My mistake, then, as I was under the belief that it is 70 years. Sorry.
