I received GedCOM info come year(s) ago and just recently when I purchased ReUnion 8 that I tried to import the info.
When I try to import the date the dialogue box says "there is not default application to specified to open the document." When I ask the computer to choose an application it highlights Adobe. When I did this before on other info and chose Adobe even though it defaulted to Adobe, the documents could not then open it.
How do I import the info from a diskette to my blank family file?

It should open with TextEdit or Simpletext (OS9). A Gedcom is just a text document. If that fails, copy it to your desktop and add ".txt" as a suffix (without the quotes) Open it in any text reader (AW/Word/TextEdit/etc) and save to desktop. Reunion will recognize it now.

Don't expect Reunion to open when you double-click on the GEDCOM file. Rather, open it from within Reunion, using the appropriate command (I think it's File | Import, but I don't have Reunion open right now to check).
