Default Witnesses

Hi to all,
I'm french and sorry for my bad english
I'm new on this forum and I thank your for welcoming me
I've just bought Reunion 9.0b and have a lot of questions to resolve

I don't find the place where I have to put the witnesses of baptisms, marriages, .....

I assigned Ancestors numbers and can do searches from it, but I don't see where are these numbers on the main screen

Could you help me?
Cordially
Gerard

Gerard, put the witness information in the source for the event. As an example,

Church records, Notre Dame, Paris [personal visit to church on 4 Jan 2010]

(a) Marriages, Notre Dame, 1856
Date:
Groom:
Bride:
Witnesses:
(1)
(2)

(b)...

There are varying answers to this question. I would most often put the Witness List in a Note associated with the marriage because in long ago days those witnesses were siblings or future cousins and to my mind belong in the histroy of the family - that is, the Notes.
The Notes become an entry in the book one should be writing. See more in www.genealogyhowto.com.

Gerard, Reunion doesn't automatically link witnesses if that's what you're asking?

There's been previous requests to be able to link god-parents, etc. You should post your request into the Wish List forum.

I list witnesses under the marriage notes and occasionally also under the witness.

To see ancestor numbers on the family card (along with other numbering), see 'ancestor number' in the built-in help:

To include numbers in the current view, choose Reunion -> Preferences and click the Views button. Then choose Numbering from the Add Field popup menu.
Cheers

BTW, no need to apologise about your English. It's a lot better than my French

Thanks Tom
It's working well for the ancestors numbers
Charles thinks like you for the witnesses and I'll do the same
What's a pity that there is not any links created

Red face Re: Witnesses

I list the witnesses under the marriage notes, but I also put an event (usually I use residence even if I don't have an actual place) for the witness (if they have been identified).

For example, Joe Smith, who lives in Detroit, witnesses the marriage of his sister, Susie, on 23 April 1910.

So I have a residence event for Joe that says that he lives in Detroit in April 1910, the source is the marriage record of his sister Susie, and the event memo states that he was a witness at her marriage.

I also do this (or have started to, anyways) for informants of death certificates, if listed. Sometimes they give a location, and usually the informant is a relative.

Just another idea!

Morning Sara
Really I think it's a complicate work and it would be interesting that the links are created automatically
I go to the Wishes Lists Forum to add my voice to

I'm curious. Are you assuming Joe lived in Detroit solely from the marriage certificate? Couldn't he have come from out of town to be a witness? If you already have, say a 1910 census with Joe in Detroit, then you may be able to expand the residence date range, but I wouldn't use the marriage certificate alone as proof of residence.
