    HTM to HTML

Since updating to version 12, I have been having severe problems with updating my web site using the html format that Reunion creates; previous versions ued htm. Individuals using the old address (uses htm) can not pull up the updated site which uses the html format.

    Solutions!

    P. S. Is there any way to have Reunion create the web pages in .htm format NOT .html. The server I use does not like .html files.

I have uploaded again my entire genealogy site with .html instead of .htm and I have replaced all occurrences of ".htm" with ".html" using the (free) TextWrangler in other pages of my site.
Those visitors having bookmarked any of my .htm pages will get a 404 error, but new visitors will reach the proper page.

In Reunion Preferences, Web Preferences > Reports > Files, you can select the name of your home (cover) page. I have found that the easiest, most foolproof way to publish is to just tell your friends and family the directory name. If your home (cover) page is named index.htm, index.html, default.htm, or default.html, it will automatically be selected. As an example, my own page at http://finneganfunnyfarm.net/tree/ will take you to my Reunion cover page. When I refresh my page, I replace the entire directory with the new Reunion web pages, so it just works.

You could upload a file called a .htaccess file that would cause the web server to rewrite all the requests for .htm to .html

This article on StackExchange gives detail on how to do this...

In my website's .htaccess file I added the following rule to rewrite all requests with .htm extension to .html: RewriteRule ^(.*)\.htm$ $1.html [NC] Most of the URLs in my website were rewritten
