    Removing large numbers of people 5,000 plus from a family file?

    I have imported a GEDCOM file with over 5200 people in it. The majority with the same surname, male and female.

    My ancestor and his dependents total about 200.

    What is the best way to remove the unwanted 5,000, which leaves only the 200 please?

    And how?

    There are lots of ways to do that. Here's three. Work on a copy of the file, so that you can start over if you need to.

    First way:
    [1] mark the 200 people you want to save
    [2] export a family file (File -> Export -> Reunion Family File... -> Marked people and their spouses -> Export... The new file will be the one you want to keep.

    Second way:
    [1] mark everybody in the family file
    [2] unmark the 200 people you want to save.
    [3] File -> Delete -> Marked People

    Third way:
    [1] unmark everybody in the family file
    [2] mark the 200 people you want to save.
    [3] File -> Delete -> Unmarked People

    If you make a mistake you can copy the original file and try again on a copy.

      The third way was my choice.
