    Old photo, many faces

    Hello to all.
Just thought I would add another note about photos for Multimedia.
I have made many scans of old photos and have succeeded in what I needed regarding multi person groups. Mostly by cropping in the person view.
A problem with just one small very print of a group taken of my mother's family connection. Twelve people in the group, sibs etc plus parents.
Good because I have few images of some of them at all. All passed on now.

Scanning and improving the quality as I usually do, revealed something strange.
For a while I studied the image on the iMac until I realised why.
Not a lot of detail in the image as it was side lot on a late afternoon, though the faces were clear enough.
My detective work revealed significant abnormalities? My mother has a brooch on her right side lapel. The coat buttoned up wrong. Dad's lapel badge was on the wrong side.
Aha I had it, the print was made in reverse! Seems the home camera's negative was used wrong way up to print. I don't have this negative, but I know from printing many thousands of negatives how it can happen. It can be easy to see if there is a street sign or window sign etc.
Photos of brides and grooms, always show the points mentioned.
We need to be careful too when photos from the 'other half' of the world, show motor cars.😉
Hope this is of interest and maybe helps others in some way.

I'm not acquainted with photography terminology and I have a few photos of families where I would like to select a shot of one person. I don't know what is meant by "cropping in the Person view". and a procedure to accomplish this. Could you explain for a ole Southern boy?

      Hello Delbert
I understand your problem and how to do it was pointed out to me by a kind soul on ReunionTalk.
This simple procedure is gained by first locating the multimedia picture on the left of the person screen, click on this to show the enlarged version, which is now shown on the right.

Look at the row of tools at the bottom of the screen (-on a gray background).
Second from the right is the cropping tool (crossed right angles).
Click that tool and the cropping corners are now active on the photo.
Crop as desired and again tap on the cropping tool to save the crop, or click the APPLY button on the right.
As this is only a copy of the original, the crop is on this one copy only.

Altogether a very handy tool and so useful when you have more than one person in the photo, such as a bride and groom.
I use another original copy for the other person and crop it the same way on their person view etc.
The sidebar Multimedia when selected shows all the media for that person and their partner as you will know. So a double click on any photo brings up the same action screen.
I found that if I have a couple - bride and groom - you can duplicate that photo by using either one and dragging it to the new location, eg from the brides multimedia to the groom's multimedia area - before the crop of course. This is very handy too.
Nothing is lost in either direction
Dragging that original to the Family Multimedia is doing a COPY and if before the cropping leaves the original in the other panel.
      Hope that is clear enough.
Experimenting is usually the best teacher after the 'nudge' .
      Best of luck.
You can send me an email to get more if required.

Think of "cropping" as zooming in on the subject of interest. You are simply isolating the subject from the rest of the picture!

The icon you will need to use is the black wireframe tool (2nd rightmost icon at the bottom of the box.) Once placed on the picture, you can stretch and shrink the wireframe to suit your needs -- press APPLY and you are done!

DON'T DO IT ON YOUR ONLY COPY! Make a copy and crop the copy.

The cropping feature is INSIDE Reunion, so the original linked picture is NOT affected by cropping.

Quite true, Frans, but when I spoke up, I was reading the discussion as normal cropping --- as in a graphics application. All Reunion does is "hide" the rest of the photo.

Just discovered I didn't thank you for the detail explanation. I really appreciate the help of those of you on this program. Sorry to be so long in acknowledging your response.
