I've searched the forum archives without success for information on why IPTC captioning cannot be imported into the comments field when a photo is placed in the multimedia window. I understand that only a pointer to the photos location of the photo is actually stored in Reunion, but why can't the IPTC caption/description be read and inserted?
Many graphics applications such as Photo Mechanic, Photoshop CS and Elements, Lightroom, Bridge, Aperture, iPhoto Graphics Converter, iView Multimedia, Expressions, etc., allow for entering EXIF/IPTC Metadata, as well as read that data.
Currently one has to open the photo in one of these applications, copy the caption, then go to Reunion and paste it in the comments field? Doable, but inconvenient.
Can anyone explain why Reunion cannot read this information?

I tried to re-add the info for the person as a test, now they're in the index twice. With two different changed dates.

Before I do something I will regret, anyone know what to do?

(Addendum: This invisible person's children and wife are there and not there as well. However, if I go to the wife's parents cards, I can see her listed as their child. I click on her name, I can see her card, but not her husband or children)

I am now officially freaked out.

Hi,

I'm testing out Reunion as a possible solution to help me migrate from Windows. The main Gedcom data import seems to be OK, but I'm having a problem with photos. The source program is a British product called Family Historian - it's really great but I desparately want to dump my Windows VM.

When looking in Reunion, the photos are of a greyed stock image with a red question mark. I assume this means it hasn't either imported or located the images. Unfortunately I can't see from any of the options where it thinks it is looking (the "Reveal in Finder" option is greyed out).

My images are in a number of different folders, based upon the family branch (Surname) and then the type of image (photo, certificate, census).

So for example for my direct branch I'd have the images stored as follows :

~/Documents/Genealogy/Adshead/Adshead Census/
~/Documents/Genealogy/Adshead/Adshead Images/
~/Documents/Genealogy/Adshead/Adshead Certificates/

I've tried resetting the default for multimedia to the root folder ~/Documents/Genealogy but this doesn't work.

Examining the Gedcom file with a text editor, I see this type of reference to the image :

1 _FILE \\.psf\.home\documents\geneaology\Adshead\Adshead Certificates\Adshead, John (I28) - Marriage Certificate.JPG

Just out of interest I changed all of the Windows directory references to Mac ending up with :

1 _FILE ~/Documents/geneaology/Adshead/Adshead Certificates/Adshead, John (I28) - Marriage Certificate.JPG

I then re-imported but that hasn't worked.

I'm sure the answer is obvious (or at least I hope so .... I've got a lot of images and I don't want to have to re-import each individually).

Can anyone help ?

Many thanks.

Adam.

Reunion 10.0.1 has fixed one minor annoyance (Unnamed person showing up after all info entered), but hasn't fixed a new one I've just encountered, and I think this may have been mentioned by someone else--no 'Cancel' or 'Undo' button on the Batch Children page. For the second time I find myself having to circuitously undo something that I entered prematurely or entered on the wrong couple. You can't click out of the page without getting all the now-unwanted children appearing as Unnamed. It's not a question of being "Done" entering them when I've entered them in error (thought I was on the record of the correct couple, when I wasn't, or a similar mistake on my part). Why isn't there an easier way to do this?

If a couple are just Partners how do you get this to print on say Family History Report instead of Spouse? Currently I have these recorded as Domestic Relationship, but it still shows as Spouse, no indication that they are not married. In Marriage page, the Events button has Partner, but most, if not for all of mine, I do not have a date of place to enter. Even having information in these fields, name of partner still shows as Spouse.
How do I get partner relationships to show Partner against the individual on reports and not Spouse?

I posted earlier about this issue but titled the thread "Index problem?" and nobody responded. Let me try again.

According to the manual entry (seen when I select "People Sidebar" on the Help menu) I'm supposed to be able to type names to find people in that sidebar. My preference setting is indeed set to update lists as I type. And yet, if I type "jacks" (as in the first few letters of my own last name), I get a list of 5 names which DO NOT begin with those letters.

I've encountered this multiple times. It is usually resolved by rebuilding the cache, but it's not reasonable to be require to do that every time I open my file!

Anybody?
