    Changing photo format?

I have about 500 photos that were all scanned in JPG format. From reading other replies about photos, I understand that I should have scanned them as TIFF or PNG. Am I correct in assuming that I now have to go back into iPhoto and "save as" each image in the preferred format...or can I just change the suffix?

Whatever you do, DON'T just change the extension. This will not change the format of the image contained in the file, and will only confuse any application used to open the image.

If you've already scanned as JPEG, I wouldn't bother changing the photos, particularly if you're managing them in iPhoto. There is a legitimate concern that saving JPEG files over and over will degrade the quality of the image, but since iPhoto preserves the original file and does all edits nondestructively, this becomes much less of an issue.
