Can anyone enlighten me on the old railway companies of Britain and where they operated please? I have a number of relatives who worked on the railways and am having a little trouble locating them on the newly published records on Ancestry. The principle person I am looking for drove a train between Princes Risborough and Watlington and I would like to know specifically what company that would have been. It would also be useful to have a guide to all the british railway companies if anyone knows where I can get hold of one. Thanks for any help.

The National Railway Museum's two locations, in York and Shildon, Durham, and website at http://www.nrm.org.uk/ are handy resources for anyone researching UK railways. You'll find links to archives and research advice from the home page.

Good luck in your research,
