I have known for a while that 5 great grand uncles were supposedly born in Canada. At least according to family lore and a couple censuses.

How do I obtain Canadian birth certificates for them? The problem could be that they were born from 1856 to 1865. I do know the location where they were supposedly born (London, Ontario, Canada).

I don't believe Canada issued birth certificates before 1900. If you know your GGUncles religion, there is a good chance that baptismal or other records exist. I am a member of the Essex County (London) Genealogical Society and may be able to help. Email me - WayneTill at Comcast.net.

Thank you for the offer of help. However, I don't know if I can be of much help. All I have is family lore. The story goes that the boys were to be raised Roman Catholic and the girls were to be Protestant. You see, as the family story goes, that the uncles' father was Catholic and the mother was Protestant. But I haven't see any documentation to back that up or to prove that the uncles were Catholic or Protestant.

Beyond the help offered by Wayne Till, with your information, you could visit the Family History Center closest to your location. You can find it at the Family History Library:

If you care to do some preliminary research at home, look at their Library Catalog. I would look first for "repertoires" or indexes of baptisms, both Catholic and Protestant, for the churches in/near London Ontario that existed in your date range of interest. Beyond that, you can retrieve copies of the microfilms of the records taken by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons). The library will send them to your local Family History Center for a small fee for you to review.

I have used Automated Genealogy.com to find my Swedish family immigration, Irish, they arrived in Canada in 1852 and earlier....
Not sure if you will have luck but, it is worth a try. I think the earliest Census is 1880/81 in Canada.
