Someone sent me a .PAF file, which I could not import into Reunion, so I sent i to a cousin with a Windows computer, from whom I've received .GED files and imported successfully.
Bob has PAF on his computer, and on his first attempt it "sorta worked" but was "read only," and he wanted to place it in Legacy. He changed its name and exported a proper .GED, then opened the .GED in Family Tree Maker. It no longer appeared to be read-only, so he re-exported it as a .GED, saving it with a different name. Then he re-imported it into Legacy and it "played nice" (I suppose he means he could open it in Legacy).
He did try a test entry on one of the "notes" when he opened it in Legacy, and it no longer seems to be "read only."
I tried to import the file he sent me as a .GED, and as a text file, and as a family file, but I get the error message, "improper file format." Does anybody know how I can open this file, and why I can't when I've never had problems importing Bob's .GED's before?
Thanks,
Joy
