When I load my family file in Reunion only some of the data comes up, data that I first put in several years ago. The rest of the data, entered much more recently, only comes up when I go to Find->Person and type in a name I know is entered but is not coming up. That is annoying because I've got to check whether this data has come up or not. Related to that is another issue I've discovered - in my Index the same name in a number of times is listed 2 or 3 times in some cases. Does that mean I've entered the same person more than once?

Have you rebuilt your index?
Also, YOU assign the file that comes up when you open Reunion, not the last entry. Is that what you are referring to?

Thanks SGilbert - what do you mean by rebuilding the index? I have never done this. Is there a procedure I should follow?
Also,I don't understand what you mean by "assign". What happens when I open the original icon I get a window with a number of files one of which is the family file. When I click on that I get a reduced set of data until I tell it find the other people.

Go to preferences-->Index-->Rebuild Index.
To have yourself, or whomever you choose, come up 1st when you open your family file, go to that person. Then Find-->Relatives-->click button for that person-->Identify. That person now becomes the 'Source" person.
I THINK you are confusing the Reunion Icon with the Family File Icon. If opening the Reunion icon (just the program), you will be presented with a list of family files (however many you have) The preferred way, as I do it, is to have alias's (what is the plural of alias?) in the dock (or desktop) of the family files and open from that.

It sounds like you are wanting to change your Home Card...the family card that appears when you open your family file. If so, find that person (by using the Find -> Person window). Then, drag his/her name button up to the Home icon on your toolbar. (Or, choose Options -> Startup and click the "Use Current Family" button. Then, click Save.)
For additional information about assigning a Home Card, search your manual for "home card." To access your manual, choose Help -> Search the Manual (or click on the Manual button on your toolbar).
On the other hand, if you are simply wanting a quick way to get to the family card of the last person you were on when you previously closed your family file, simply click the "Back" button on your toolbar right after opening your family file.
Related to that is another issue I've discovered - in my Index the same name in a number of times is listed 2 or 3 times in some cases. Does that mean I've entered the same person more than once?Yes. Duplicated names can be caused by manually entering them multiple times or if importing a family file (or Gedcom file) into a family file already containing those names.
For additional information about the cause of duplicate entries and how to correct the situation, please search your manual for "cause duplication."
