I have recently found a relative who does not own a mac but has a great deal of family info I would like to import. She has sent me her info first from a Family Tree Maker program and secondly from a Personal Ancestral File. But neither of these files wants to import into my Reunion 8 file. Before trying the import, I created a brand new family file so that I wouldn't have problems with some of her info overwriting info I already had. When I try to import them as gedcom files, I get a window saying the file is being analyzed. When that process finishes I get an error message that says, "That was not a valid Gedcom file and/or was not formatted according to the Gedcom specifications (4.0 or 5.5). We have tried this twice now and she claims she exported the files as Gedcom 5.5.

I also tried import the files as text files. It actually appeared to be working, but when everything was finished, there was no data in the file at all. When I tried to import the files as Family Tree files, I immediately got an error message saying that the file had an invalid format.

I sent her a file with about 100 people in it and she was able to import it just fine.

I'm afraid I don't know what kind of computer she has or how old it is. I hope someone can help.

If you eMail me the files to rogerkiwi@aol.com I will take a look at them and get you out a GEDCOM file from each of them, whether it's Family Tree Maker or PAF.
