I have two family files, one of my father's side, the other my mother's, that I began separately about 30 years ago. I always meant to consolidate the files but over the years they became too immense--one has 6000 entries plus data, the other 1800--to type one into the other. Is there a way I can import a GedCom file of one into the other or copy whole families otherwise? There is some duplication of names in the more current generations. Is there a way to handle these without deleting them one by one if I am able to combine the files as GedComs? Thanks for any help. PA

If both your files are family files created with Reunion then you DO NOT want to use GEDCOM to combine them. You will fare much better by importing one file into the other as Reunion Files. And as always when extensively changing or merging your files be sure to save a copy of both family files before starting the import/merge.
The process and cautions are well described in the manual. See the sections "Importing and Exporting Family Files" and "Match & Merge" in the Reunion 8 manual.

Phil, make sure that you also do a match and merge [that is the bugaboo of combining the databases!] so that you don't have double entries for some of the people. Make a copy of your now united family file before you attempt it, just in case.
