Whenever I try to create a Register Report, I get the message "Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use or might not be a valid Word document. (Report 009, OEYL Register.rtf)" I am using the defaults and do not have any boxes checked.

It will work fine if I select a person with only a few descendants, my grandfather for example. The farther back I go, then I get the message. I have tried this with numerous different ancestors and get the same results.

And of course I really need to get this data out to relatives today. (I've been busy working on the file all week and made promises!)

I am having no problem at all with either Word or Pages. In this emergency situaltion, can you create your report and useText Editor so you can get and initial report out to the relatives?

I can't create the report in rtf format either -- I thought that might work. Any other suggestions? I haven't changed anything on this particular line today (since installing 9.0), so I can go back to the old file and create the chart.

I really do need to get it out today -- people have been sending me info all week and I promised them updates! (Gotta follow through if I want the info to keep coming in!)

It works seamlessly with Mellel and NeoOffice which makes me very happy!

By the way, it won't work with Pages either!

Hi Joyce,
I just created a register report in Pages with no problem. Are you running OS 10.4 or OS 10.3.9? I don't know if this will make a difference, but Reunion 9 requires 10.3.9. Make sure you have the .9, if you are using 10.3. On some of the other threads there appears to be a bug with the 10.3.9 with bold note text styling. Perhaps, there are other bugs with 10.3.9. Just a thought.

I just created a register report with 6 generations and sources, and it worked fine. I would also ask the question: what version of Word are you using? I am using Word 2004 for Mac, version 11.3.

I'm using Mac OS 10.4.8, on a MacBook Pro (Intel) laptop that I got for Christmas. It has a 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 3 GB of installed ram. The hard drive is 100 GB and has 7 GB of free space. Pages was bought pre-installed and is version 2.0.2. Word is Version 11.3 (Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac). Don't know how I can get any more up-to-date than this!

I am using OS 10.4.8 and Word 10.1.4 and iWork 06 Pages 2.0.2. I can generate 11 generations in my reports.

I'm curious. Are you able to duplicate this problem using the Sample Family file installed with Reunion 9?

I tried again, with the number of generations set at ten. I experimented by starting with different ancestors / family lines, but I still get the same error message.

I deleted the sample file. How can I get it back?

I deleted the sample file. How can I get it back?Did you upgrade from Reunion 8? If so, you would be to install Reunion 8 and upgrade the Sample Family file to the Reunion 9 format.

Or, you could download and install the Reunion 9 Demo version again.

Got the Sample Family file -- simply installed on my other computer, ran the demo, and copied the file over. I started a report with Patrick Kennedy, and it works fine. However, he only has 20 descendants. There are only 34 people listed in the entire index. Levi Young has 1244 descendants. (This is the line we're working really hard on compiling!) Levi Pierce has 302 descendants and I can't create his report either. There are a total of 22,484 people in my file. (I've written a couple of books on descendants of ....) I CAN create a report for my great grandfather - he has 98 descendants. LeRoy Miller, another great grandfather, has 118 descendants and I cannot create his Register Report.

None of the settings are marked -- no privacy filter, no sources, pictures, etc.

By the way, I also tried my husband's lines (which don't cross with mine whatsoever until our marriage) -- I get the same results. I wanted to rule out that it was a certain individual that halts the process.

(I.e. you would use the Import Reunion Family File feature.)

Sometimes, creating a new family file helps. I hope it works:-)

However, if not, perhaps the best thing to do would be to send your family file into us at...

help@leisterpro.com

Please compress it beforehand. (I.e this can be done by selecting the family file from within the Finder and control-clicking on the file. Then, select "Create Archive of..." from the pop-up menu that appears.)

We can try to duplicate the problem.

I tried creating a new family file called Experiment, and then I imported the Reunion 9 File. I also tried Experiment two where I imported the Reunion 8 file. Neither one of them allowed me to create the Register Reports. (Except as above mentioned.) I'm compressing my file and getting it ready to send!

I'm impressed with Leister's tech support. This thread started on Sunday evening (when no one at tech support should have been working), and when I got home today I found a nice e-mail from Gregg at Leister. They have replicated the problem, repaired it, and plan to release an update "fix" within the next 24 hours. Nice work!
