I have a general question for anybody out there. I haven't purchased Reunion yet (considering waiting for new version) but I would like to know how far out a pedigree chart can be viewed and printed,; i.e can you show something like 10- 30 generations? I have 1 link in my family that goes back to the 600's. Can all this be entered in Reunion or is it limited? And if yes... what would the final look look like?

I have a general question for anybody out there. I haven't purchased Reunion yet (considering waiting for new version) but I would like to know how far out a pedigree chart can be viewed and printed,; i.e can you show something like 10- 30 generations? Yes; limit is 99 generations. There's also a Cascading Pedigree Chart (limited to 97 generations) which is designed to put either 4 or 5 generations on a page--with numbering that relates each subsequent page to the prior page. The data allowed in that condensed report is limited while the data in the regular Pedigree Chart can be just about anything you want--other than the Notes.I have 1 link in my family that goes back to the 600's. Can all this be entered in Reunion or is it limited?Yes. Again, 99 generations and an unlimited number of people and families. (There are some other "limitations", but I doubt they would affect you--e.g., only 50 children per couple; only 50 spouses per person.:D)And if yes... what would the final look look like?A bit too broad a query for me to answer. I'd recommend you download the free demo to get an idea of how each of the charts & reports look.

P.S. Personal opinion: Don't bother to wait for v9; get v8 now and get on with enjoying the recording of your genealogical efforts and producing products to share the results of your efforts. And as Leister Productions has told us:. . .Our "window" (within which you are able to get a free upgrade after just buying a version that gets upgraded) has always been at least 3 months. So you'll either get a free upgrade or have well spent your purchase price if it's over 3 months.

As stated by David, it's very hard to predict exactly how a chart will look because it's very dependent on the actual distribution of people in the database by generation and branch.

I'd also recommend you give the trial version a go. You might find other reasons to use it than just the charting capability. A word of warning is that the demo will only allow you to enter 35 people, so you may want to start with just the line that goes way back to see how it looks in a chart without the rest of your relatives. The work will not be wasted because the full version can use your demo data file as a starting file, or can import it if you want to start fresh.
