Marking groups of people

I recently merged two Renuion files to create one family file. Today I tried to mark a group of cards which would only include individuals on my mother's side of the family, so that I could create a marked set to export. First I unmarked everyone in my file. Then navigated to my mother's card and chose mark groups in the title bar. Next I chose to mark everyone related to my mother. Reunion marked everyone in the entire file, on both my mother and father's side of the family. I know that I have been able to mark select groups before, but I am not sure what I am doing wrong this time. Thanks for any help that you can provide.

First navigate to your mother's card. Under Mark Groups, Unmark everyone first, then select the button to mark ancestors of You mother. Do it again to mark her descendants, if you like (but not doing an Unmark Everyone First). And don't forget to include her (another option)
