Hi
Yesterday I downloaded Reunion 8 and have been trying it out but some things are confusing. For instance, I cannot work out what the green ticks/Mark/No Marked People at the bottom of the Family File are for.
Also I have a problem; because my husband and I are second cousins we obviously share a line back from our 1 x g grandparents. I have printed out Descendant Chart and Descendant Report but all our mutual rellies are showing twice. The Family History Report is better because under my name it says 'See duplicate branch above'. When inputting info I was very careful to connect to existing person when I had put info in once. This is the third programme for Macs I have tried and I've now realised that none of them can cope with this. Needless to say I'm very disappointed.
Today I read the thread where there seemed to be difficulties with Tiger. This is also a concern for me as I am using a Mac Mini OS X Tiger 10.4.7
I would be very grateful for any comments and answers.

These check marks show/allow you to "Mark" people. This is useful if you want to identify a subset of your family file and do things only to those people - like move through from one marked person to another, or attach a General Source to all the marked people, or set a particular flag for the Marked people.
Marked people "usually" come about as the result of some sort of find or search - eg in Find Anything you can mark the resulting set of people, and then perform some operation on them. In the Find menu you can Mark Ancestors or Descendants of a person.
Also I have a problem; because my husband and I are second cousins we obviously share a line back from our 1 x g grandparents. In most, if not all of the outputs you create from Reunion - charts and reports, on the dialog box where to choose what exactly you want to do, there is a check box for "Remove Duplicates". If you check that you should get the results you're expecting. If it's not checked, then you will see your common ancestors duplicated on a pedigree chart for example.
Today I read the thread where there seemed to be difficulties with Tiger. This is also a concern for me as I am using a Mac Mini OS X Tiger 10.4.7
I don't recall this thread - I've been using Reunion 8.06 on Tiger since Tiger came out with no problems.
Welcome to Reunion :-)

As a new user of Reunion I would only add that you not get discouraged. There are a ton of features and capabilities that come with Reunion and it can be a bit overwhelming at times. Take it all in a little at a time and read and explore the manual. You'll be amazed at the many capabiltities that you'll find and how well written the manual truly is.
A handy feature is the context sensitive help links at the bottom of dialogue boxes. It's that little question mark in the bottom left hand corner that will take you directly to help with that particular function.
I too was confused at times about various aspects of the software. But typical of many programs I found that by simply plunging in and using it you'll come to understand what used to be confusing. You'll no doubt make some mistakes along the way, but you're definitely in the right place here at ReunionTalk to get the help you may need to take full advantage of this outstanding tool.
I use Tiger (version 10.4.5) and as Roger has already mentioned am not aware of any thread regarding difficulties using it. It has worked flawlessly for me
Best of luck to you and again Welcome to Reunion!

Thanks Roger and Rick
Your answers have made me feel better about Reunion. I will give it a go for another couple of days and see how I feel then but I really want to buy a programme soon as I have three-years-worth of research on paper to put somewhere. Don't go away as I might need to ask something else!!!
Thanks again,
Jennie

Jennie, The guys and gals on this forum are very, very knowledgeable in using Reunion and the top notch tech support from Leister have always been great about answering technical questions or adding more information about Reunion when problems arise.
I am running Reunion 8 on a G5 iMac OS 10.4.7 without a problem. If you decide to buy Reunion just make sure you apply all the updates to the program.
Before I bought Reunion I played around with a small family subset of my genealogy data using the demo version to get a feel for the program. Since I was attempting to reenter lots of information from printouts from my Dad's old Roots program on his ancient Commodore I got lots of help from members of this forum with suggestions as to how to keep the Roots references/personal numbers, etc. That's another long story but the quick of it is I absolutely needed to keep those Roots numbers! This forum was wonderful and helped me through some organizational issues.
I bought Reunion and have been very happy with my decision!

Congratulations! Now that you've bought the program, you have the benefit of its excellent manual in addition to these forums.

Marnen,
It was Jennie who was asking about Reunion prior to purchase. I just stated that I was a happy purchaser/owner of Reunion and how beneficial it was to have access to this forum and it's support and suggestions!

Aaack! That's what I get for posting in a hurry. OK, in that case:
Jennie, once you buy the program, you'll have access to an excellent manual. :)
